TRANSGENDER RESOURCES

Perhaps, one of the most challenging parts of being transgender is all of the false information in the world about it.  Being transgender can be scary and challenging enough without buying into all the false information.  For this reason, I have compiled some creditable resources that may help other transgender persons and our supporters.  As I discover more resources, I will be adding them.  It is my hopes and prayers that more people will be more educated on the topic, which help could other transgender people to live a happier, healthier, and safer lives.

1.  One of the questions I get asked the most is, what is Transgender?  However, many times I am not asked the question, instead others improperly assume they know what is Transgender.  The following is a link from WebMD that is one of the best explanations I have found so far:

What it means to be Transgender

2.  Another question that is important to ask, is what is the medical treatment for Transgender persons.  What many people do not realize is, there has been a medical protocol for transgender treatment since the 70's, which is a world-wide protocol.  The following is the link from WPATH (World Professional Association of Transgender Health), which explains the treatment protocol in detail:

3.  One of the main reasons why I decided to create this blog was, just maybe by educating others, more people will come to understand transgender more, and less violent statistics will occur.  The following is a link that shares the statistics and causes of transgender.  If I could chose one area of this blog to try to teach awareness, this would be it.  The following is a link from Healthresearchfunding.org, which explains many statistics, and causes of Transgender:

14 Unique Gender Identity Disorder Statistics

4.  Many people do not realize how difficult it can be to live with gender dysphoria, and how much courage it takes to transition as a transgender person.  Unfortunately, some people feel the need to harass, bully, and assault Transgender persons just because we are different. What is sad, is that this type of treatment by others can cause such severe depression, that many transgender persons become suicidal.  For anyone who is going through this and feel suicidal, I plea for you to click on the following link.  Please understand, suicide is a permanent solution for a temporary problem, and there are thousands of people who care about us.  We all are special, and we All matter.  Please ask for help.

5.  What about support?  First, I will always recommend professional support; but sometimes people just need someone to talk to.  When I was first diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria, I needed someone to talk to, someone like me. Fortunately, I was able to find a free peer to peer chat room that specializes in exactly what I needed.  At first, I was seeking support, then eventually I was able to support and educate others.  Now, I am helping keep this room safe as a Moderator.  For those who may be interested in a chat room for transgender support, the following link may help.  FYI, this room can be like most online chat rooms, an occasional jerk can show up, but they are addressed.
