One Example of Transphobia We Face - Blog #16
The above text was from a meme that a Facebook friend shared. I do not believe this person is a bad person, just mislead and socially programmed in transphobia. The following is my answer. My hope and prayer is that by teaching awareness will help teach awareness, and prevent further discrimination and violance.
My Response:
"What about women who are born with those famous chromosomes, but are infertile from a birth abnormality, are they still female? Another example: If a person was born with a facial abnormality, would it be okay if that person had facial surgery for the sake of the person's mental health and development? If so, why is it not okay for transgender persons to do the same? Transgender (gender dysphoria) is not a new development, but it is fairly new in teaching public awareness. Here's some statistics: 1 out of 2000 persons in the United States are born with both sexes...who are they? 1/2 of 1% of all persons in the United States are born transgender. For those who do not know, transgender is developed at the same time sexual organs start to develop at about 2 weeks after conception, except physical and mental development does not match each other. Also, all of us are originally created female, unless changes during that time occur. Another thought, 60-70% of all Transgender persons will be physically assaulted because they are transgender, 40% of transgender persons will attempt suicide because of social pressure of transphobia, while 20% will succeed. If those of us who are involuntarily born transgender and suffer from gender dysphoria, which is a birth abnormality, why are we less human/real than other abnormalities. Just because some do not understand transgender, it does not mean it is not real. Transgender is not contagious, so why do some need to be negative towards us?"
Hope and Prayers this will change some day.
Hugs,
Jade
